The Thrill of Hope

Wednesday 23 Dec

Scott reflects on message of Christmas amidst an unprecedented year.

What a year! 2020 is one we will never forget. And at the end of a stretching, tiring, unprecedented year, Christmas is with us again. As our world still navigates the challenges of the pandemic, I am so thankful for the opportunity to catch my breath and be reminded of the hope of this season.

Here is a Christmas greeting I have recorded that reminds us of the hope of the season and how our teams continue to bring this hope to local communities across the globe:

This week we celebrate afresh that hope is here! As we sing in ‘O Holy Night’: “A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices. For yonder breaks, a new and glorious morn.”

At the end of this challenging year I am so thankful for the ‘thrill of hope’. I am so thankful that God’s light still breaks into darkness; that grace breaks into brokenness, that hope breaks into despair. That our Emmanuel God is here with us; that we can know afresh ‘the thrill of hope’!

At the end of this year, I am so thankful for how God continues to use our teams across the world. Be encouraged by this story from Tim Downes. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, Tim reminds us of the hope of new faith communities being birthed in Malawi. We celebrate what God is doing around the world and we recognise the vital role our partners play in our story. Thank you for your persistent prayers and ongoing generosity.

As I look to 2021, I am excited that I can look again to the God of hope and the new things He has ahead for our mission community as we pursue our compelling vision, even in the midst of a pandemic.

Happy Christmas to you and your family. May together we know and experience 'the thrill of hope'.

Grace and peace
Scott
