Exploring Mission is about discipleship. It is designed to connect you to God’s global vision, and to help you find your place in it. Everybody has a role in this story.

Exploring Mission recognises that you are already living, learning and working in intercultural contexts. It’s a lived experience. We also recognise that our world is rapidly changing and therefore intercultural mission must keep pace. An outdated approach to global mission simply will not cut it!

The Basics

What is Exploring Mission?
Exploring Mission is a 5 Unit pathway to help you explore how God is calling you to engage in intercultural mission. It involves engaging with a wide range of issues in theology, mission, context, culture and the Gospel.

Exploring Mission is experienced as an online learning community that gathers from around the country and beyond, with a common heart to grow in their participation in God’s mission. In 2023 we will be covering two units; Unit 3: Spiritual Formation for Mission and Unit 4: Context and Culture.

Each Unit has 5 sessions which run on consecutive Monday Nights from 8pm - 9:30pm (AEST/ AEDT).

Key Dates in 2023
Unit 1: Spiritual Formation and Mission
Monday 7 August to Monday 4 September

Unit 2: Culture and Context
Monday 9 October to Monday 13 November

Exploring Mission participants will be invited to join a small number of optional events each year, such as:
  • Dinner with a Baptist Mission Australia intercultural team member
  • Coffees with Baptist Mission Australia Mobilisers or State Leaders
  • Discernment Weekend
  • Conferences
Please note that Mentoring/ coaching/ Spiritual Direction is recommended, especially for the Spiritual Formation for Mission Unit.

Exploring Mission is a non-award course. Participants who successfully complete all units will receive an internal certificate from Baptist Mission Australia.

Financial Cost
You may consider asking your church to contribute to the cost of Exploring Mission.
  • $75 for two units or $40 per unit

Who is Exploring Mission for?

Exploring Mission is for anyone who wants to explore questions such as:
  • What is God doing in the world?
  • What is my role in God’s mission?
  • What does intercultural mission in Australia look like?
  • Where is God calling me now?
  • How can I be trained and equipped for what God has for me in the future?
Exploring Mission is for people who want to understand and support global missions, for people considering becoming intercultural team members in the future, and for anyone who wants to better engage in intercultural ministry in their local neighbourhoods and suburbs.

Exploring Mission is facilitated by Baptist Mission Australia, the global mission arm of the Australian Baptist church. These are the foundations for Baptist Mission Australia's ministry:
