For many years, Melanie and Tim have run children’s and youth ministries for Yawo young people. These young people have little hope or opportunity for a basic education.

In Mangochi, Malawi, where Tim and Melanie serve, the current statistics report that only 16% of local primary students complete primary school. For those who persist and pass the exams to enter into secondary school, there are even more barriers. There are systemic school issues, as well as cultural and family pressures. Additionally, school fees for secondary school are higher than the average family can afford in main towns. They are prohibitive for most rural communities.

Over the years Tim and Melanie have worked within their social networks and sponsored students who have shown promise and potential in their schooling.

Although the there are many who do not finish their secondary school education, Tim and Melanie have now followed the journey of several students who have successfully completed secondary school. Some of those students have exceptionally good marks and are hoping to continue in their education. Without financial support, this will not be possible.

Tertiary education in Malawi is well out of reach for most of the Yawo community.  The semester fees are more than most families earn in a year.

With your help, this project will provide funding for selected students who are either studying in secondary school or wanting to go further into tertiary education. In some cases this will be subsidies, in other cases this could be the full fees. Each student’s circumstances are considered.

Education is more than a means to a job; it helps address poverty, it can reduce child marriages, provide goals and focus for youth while also providing foundational life skills that open better job opportunities. Education is life changing.

Join us in changing a generation, giving whole communities hope for the future.
