Dear Friends,

Australian Baptists have a long and rich relationship with the Baptist Union of Papua New Guinea. Over the past 75 years we have seen our faithful God at work in many different and amazing ways as Australian Baptists have come alongside our brothers and sisters in Christ in PNG.

And I am very excited to be writing to you, to share news of a new phase in this special partnership. In our rapidly changing world and with big shifts in international mission, Baptist Mission Australia has been reviewing how we best come alongside ministry partners in places like Zambia, India, Papua and PNG.

In each case, we are seeking the Spirit’s leading for what renewed partnership looks like. We have also been asking Baptist leaders in these places what is the best way we can assist them in the ministry initiatives that they lead.

Flowing from these conversations, Baptist Mission Australia and the BUPNG have signed a new five-year partnership.

Over the next five years we look forward to supporting the BUPNG through:

  • Provision of a consulting role, focused on ministry and leadership coaching and support
  • Supporting BUPNG to establish an intercultural sending arm
  • Building the capacity of BUPNG to develop and train leaders
  • Developing a project to help fund the construction of transit housing at the Baptist Theological College at Kwinkya
  • Renewing short-term ministry team visits to assist BUPNG on agreed projects

We look forward to advancing these and other initiatives, which will enhance the capacity of our PNG ministry friends to deliver ministry, develop leaders and serve others in neighbouring countries and beyond.

In faith, we have allocated $50,000 in 2023 to support the above initiatives and we hope that Australian Baptists will again respond with generosity in supporting our PNG brothers and sisters in Christ. The above initiatives will make a Kingdom difference in PNG and beyond. Your support will foster the training and leadership development of Baptist women and men, including an emerging generation of passionate followers of Jesus.

And I’m particularly excited that we will be working with the BUPNG to support the development of their own, culturally relevant sending body. This will be a wonderful step forward for PNG Baptists and those they will serve across the Pacific and beyond.

I invite you to join me in supporting this wonderful partnership opportunity. Your prayerful and financial support will make a generational difference in PNG and shape a lasting faith legacy.

Grace and peace
