A Lasting Difference

Tuesday 20 Dec

We praise God for all who partner with us in mission.

Today we particularly honour Francis Mawby, Noel Allwood, Les Merrin, and Geoffrey and Jessie Blackburn - all faithful followers of Jesus who have passed away and left a gift in their Will for Baptist Mission Australia. Their generous contributions will invest in ongoing Kingdom work.

Francis Mawby
Francis was born into a Baptist family in Northampton, in 1927. His parents were members of the Christian Endeavour Union and so Francis (and his siblings) grew up being heavily involved in Baptist communities throughout England and finally here in Australia.

In Australia, Francis was a member of the Cronulla Baptist congregation and was involved in the set up and construction of the Baptist Church in Caringbah where Francis held various offices. In 1963 he was invited to go to New Guinea with the Baptist Mission to apply his trade as an electrical engineer to support local communities. Francis’ support of the Baptist mission continued until his passing in 2021. He was faithful until the end.

Noel Allwood
Noel has been a faithful supporter of Baptist Mission Australia and numerous missionaries for a long time. Noel's late wife Doreen had served in Papua New Guinea for 11 years with Baptist Mission Australia and together they supported the Senior Girls Missionary Union and the Friends of Baptist Mission Australia.

Noel has been involved in many ministries, most recently at Marooba Aged Care but he always had a heart for mission which is shown in his legacy to Baptist Mission Australia.

Les Merrin
Les and Val spent much of their life in service for the Baptist church. God’s calling was service and mission both here and in Thailand. This was their passion and drive for all they did. ‘ Where you send me I will go’. Les spend much time seeking God’s direction and comfort. He was always learning and spending time with his Heavenly Father .

Geoffrey and Jessie Blackburn
Geoffrey wrote letters to missionaries as a child. Geoffrey was a chair of the Victorian Baptist Missionary Society, and was also an ex oficio Board Member of Baptist Mission Australia. Jessie and Geoffrey visited many of the locations intercultural team members served on, and were a loving presence on the trips. They continued their faithful partnership for mission all their lives.
