Gratitude and Grief - Mozambique

Wednesday 22 Feb

Bek and Scott reflect on what it feels like to be heading back to Mozambique...

"If the past few months in Australia could be summed up in one word it would be COMMUNITY. We're so grateful for the communities that we've experienced and been welcomed into. You've given, welcomed and encouraged us. You've created space for us to be refreshed, and offered your time and wisdom to listen, discuss, teach and help us grow. We are so grateful and give thanks to God for each of you.

Many of you have asked us how we're feeling about going back. Are we excited, eager, sad, reluctant? Is there grief or joy? The answer is all of the above. There's grief in leaving many people and things that bring us joy. There's grief in knowing the sadness we cause others by leaving. Perhaps one of our kids summed it up well when they said, "I wish everyone we loved lived in the same place".

But there is also joy. The joy of returning to people and places we love. The joy of knowing that God has a plan and purpose for us in Mozambique. A joy that comes from the vision we have for our friends and neighbours to live abundant lives, transformed by the good news of Jesus."

As they prepare to travel, pray with Bek and Scott:
  • Pray for our family as we travel back to Mozambique, for the many goodbyes and reconnections that will happen
  • Pray for our kids as they shift and adapt again
  • Thank God for Molly, a young adult who is volunteering to teach our children in Mozambique
  • Pray for Yawo believers as they continue to grow in their faith and wrestle with how to follow Jesus within their culture
