Approx 30 Minutes

Baptist Mission Australia is the intercultural sending agency of Australian Baptist churches.

From the sunburnt plains in Outback Australia to the bustling marketplaces in Asia and remote villages in Africa, Baptist Mission Australia sends out workers across the world. Our passion is to share the Good News and empower communities to develop their own distinctive ways of following Jesus.

Today, 40% of the world’s people groups are considered least-reached. This means that less than 2% of people within these communities identify as followers of Jesus. Geographic and linguistic barriers mean that millions of people within these least-reached communities never hear the good news of Jesus in a meaningful way... and social, political and cultural barriers work against their understanding and acceptance of the truth of the Gospel.

Despite these barriers, we believe that God is already at work in these places, and we can partner with Him through giving, going and praying.

Let us take a moment to pray for the least-reached and that the barriers hindering their acceptance of the Gospel would be overcome.

Resources needed:
  • Canvas or Paper
  • Art supplies to paint or draw with
  • Printed information sheets
Activity:
  1. Share information about the people groups that Baptist Mission Australia sends workers to.
  2. Each participant should choose one or two people groups to focus on. Discuss key information and, in particular, barriers faced by the people within these countries.
  3. Reflecting and meditating on the experience of the least-reached, use the art supplies to create a visual representation of your response. Partitipants may also choose to include Scripture or poetry. Encourage participants that there is no artistic experience required!
  4. Depending on your context, you may wish to provide background music appropriate to the tone.
  5. Once participants are ready (and if they are comfortable), guide them to show their artwork to others in the group and explain how their image reprepsents their reflections.
  6. Pray together for the people groups and intercultural workers who are present in those countries, that God would help them face key challenges and overcome barriers to hearing the good news of Jesus in ways that make sense to them.
